Ranking the 10 greatest San Diego Padres of all time
5. Randy Jones, LHP (1973-80)
Jones was one of the Padres’ first true stars and his legacy has stood the test of time, as he is one of just five players to have his number retired by the franchise. After suffering an MLB-leading 22 losses in 1974, Jones turned things around with back-to-back 20-win campaigns in 1975 and 1976 while making his two career All-Star appearances. The southpaw led the National League with a 2.24 ERA in 1975, and led the big leagues with 22 wins in 1976, becoming the first Padres pitcher to win a Cy Young Award. Jones’ 3.30 career ERA and 1.21 WHIP rank fifth in franchise history, while his 92 wins are the third-most by any Padres pitcher.
