Ranking the 10 greatest San Diego Padres of all time
6. Adrian Gonzalez, 1B (2006-10)
Gonzalez grew up in San Diego and earned an opportunity to play for his hometown team early in his MLB career. Despite only spending five seasons with the Padres before being dealt to the Boston Red Sox, Gonzalez made a significant impact on the franchise. Gonzalez didn鈥檛 take long to establish himself as one of the top power hitters in the game with the Padres, hitting 30 or more home runs in four consecutive seasons from 2007-10, highlighted by a 40-home run campaign in 2009. Gonzalez also posted 99 or more RBIs in those four seasons, and made three consecutive All-Star appearances from 2008-10 while winning a pair of Gold Glove Awards. Despite his relatively short tenure with the club, Gonzalez ranks first in Padres history in OPS (.888), and in the top 10 in average, on-base percentage, hits, home runs, RBIs and runs.
