2. Dave Winfield, OF (1973-80)
Winfield is often recognized for the incredible stretch he had during the middle of his MLB career with the New York Yankees, but he first emerged as a star in San Diego, becoming one of the greatest Padres players of all time. Winfield made four consecutive All-Star games to close his Padres tenure from 1977-80, putting up 20 home runs or more in each of those seasons while leading the National League with 118 RBIs and an 8.3 WAR in 1979. Winfield also won Gold Glove Awards in 1979 and 1980, part of seven overall in his career, and was a six-time Silver Slugger. The outfielder won the Roberto Clemente Award near the end of his pro tenure in 1994, and was further honored by having his No. 31 retired by the Padres in 2001, while being inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame the same year.
