Darian DeVries to Indiana: 5 WVU basketball head coach candidates
Jerrod Calhoun
Calhoun is an Ohio native who played college basketball at Cleveland State. He began his coaching career shortly after as an assistant for Bob Huggins at Cincinnati. After a brief stint at Division II Walsh University, Calhoun returned to coach alongside Huggins at West Virginia from 2007-12. He eventually left for a D-II head-coaching position at Fairmont State where he went 124-38 across five seasons. The 43-year-old was hired at Youngstown State in 2017, leading the Penguins to two 20-win seasons at the end of his tenure while being named Horizon League Coach of the Year. Calhoun has been equally impressive at Utah State, guiding the Aggies to 26 wins and an NCAA Tournament appearance this season. Calhoun’s success is hard to overlook, and his familiarity with the program could give him a leg up on other candidates.
