Darian DeVries to Indiana: 5 WVU basketball head coach candidates
Chester Frazier
Frazier is the youngest and least experienced candidate on this list, but he may also possess the highest ceiling. The 38-year-old played at Illinois and has coached collegiately for the last 15 years, with two stops back at his alma mater, learning under Bruce Weber and later Brad Underwood. Frazier also spent eight seasons alongside Weber in the Big 12 at Kansas State and was briefly an associate head coach at Virginia Tech. Frazier held the same role this season with the Mountaineers as part of DeVries’ staff. He is known as a high-level recruiter, and his familiarity with the program could keep continuity in place going into next season. Frazier’s lack of head-coaching experience might make him a risky hire for West Virginia, but the up-and-coming assistant could prove to be one of the program’s best options.
