Darian DeVries to Indiana: 5 WVU basketball head coach candidates
Josh Schertz
Schertz was in the mix for West Virginia’s opening last year and could be again this offseason. While he lacks high-major experience, Schertz has put together a strong resume through the years. The 49-year-old began his coaching career as a Division II assistant at Lynn and Queens and eventually moved up to Division I at High Point. He earned his first head-coaching gig back at the D-II level at Lincoln Memorial where he spent 13 seasons, going 339-69 while winning nine conference titles. Schertz further rose to prominence at Indiana State, leading the Sycamores to 32 wins and the NCAA Tournament in 2024. He went just 19-15 this season at Saint Louis but has already shown signs of turning the program around. Schertz has found success at every stop and would likely elevate West Virginia’s program sooner rather than later.
