Ranking each SEC basketball team entering conference play
8. Mississippi State Bulldogs
The jury was still out on Mississippi State about a month ago following a 10-point loss to Butler, but a 33-point blowout win over Pittsburgh and a road victory at Memphis within the past month has Chris Jans’ Bulldogs at an impressive 12-1. Mississippi State is one of the lower-rated defensive teams in the SEC, but that might not matter if the Bulldogs’ offense continues to roll as Mississippi State scores nearly 84 points per contest. That’s in part thanks to sophomore guard Josh Hubbard who averages 17.5 points as one of the top scores in the conference. Jans also has a talented supporting cast featuring players who thrive in the starting lineup or off the bench, including double-digit scorers Riley Kugel, Claudell Harris Jr. and KeShawn Murphy. The Bulldogs’ deep pool of talent will make them a tough draw game in and game out in the SEC.
