South Carolina is one of multiple Power 4 schools that showed interest in Hughes coming out of high school, so familiarity between him and the program likely exists. Regardless, Hughes could be a perfect fit in Columbia. The Gamecocks have had a strong 2024 campaign and ended the regular season with six consecutive wins, a stretch that nearly led them to the College Football Playoff. One of the Gamecocks鈥� greatest strengths was their rushing attack led by dual-threat quarterback LaNorris Sellers and talented halfback Raheim Sanders. With Sanders likely off to the NFL, Hughes could be a perfect replacement and would possess a lot of upside alongside Sellers. Hughes is also a capable pass catcher out of the backfield as Sanders was and would give Shane Beamer another explosive weapon.
