John Mateer transferring: 5 possible landing spots for QB
Oregon Ducks
Oregon has been one of the top programs in college football early in the Dan Lanning era. The Ducks reached the College Football Playoff last season and are the No. 1 seed in the expanded 12-team playoff this year as undefeated Big Ten champions. While Oregon might ultimately be a darkhorse to land Mateer, it could be an upside move that keeps the Ducks in the national title conversation over the next couple of years. Dillon Gabriel has been terrific as a veteran transfer for offensive coordinator Will Stein, just as Bo Nix was prior. The Ducks added former five-star quarterback Dante Moore through the portal last offseason who could ultimately be the future in Eugene. However, adding a potential 2025 Heisman candidate like Mateer would be hard to pass up for Lanning if he has interest in remaining in the Pacific Northwest.
