Ranking each Big Ten basketball head coach for 2024-25 season
7. Greg Gard, Wisconsin
Gard has received criticism for the lack of postseason success Wisconsin has had in recent years, but it鈥檚 hard to knock the consistency he has had overall during his tenure in Madison. Gard has gone 186-107 through eight-and-a-half seasons as head coach after taking over for Hall of Famer Bo Ryan during the 2015-16 season. The 53-year-old worked under Ryan at multiple stops, including UW-Platteville and UW-Milwaukee, before spending 15 years as an assistant in Madison. While Gard鈥檚 system is viewed as old school, the Badgers have evolved offensively as the head coach continues to bring in the right recruits and transfers who fit his system. The two-time Big Ten Coach of the Year needs to find success in March sooner rather than later, but he has still proven to be one of the better coaches in the conference.
