Ranking SEC teams with best College Football Playoff chances
5. LSU Tigers
LSU is ranked 16th in the country and still has a realistic chance of being a two-loss playoff team with its upcoming schedule. That will require beating Alabama in Baton Rouge in the Tigers’ next contest, but from there, a road game at Florida and two home contests against Vanderbilt and Oklahoma aren’t daunting.Â
The Tigers were a projected playoff team before a brutal second half in a 15-point loss to Texas A&M. It was their second loss of the year as they were also defeated by a now-.500 USC squad. However, LSU has a strong resume overall with wins at South Carolina and Arkansas, and with its home win over Ole Miss. Brian Kelly’s defense will likely need to improve for the Tigers to be considered a true contender, but their top-10 passing attack led by Garrett Nussmeier could take them far if they can sneak into the playoff.
