Ranking 10 college football RBs who could win Doak Walker Award

8. Dylan Sampson, Tennessee

Sampson showed flashes of brilliance while sharing the Tennessee backfield with 1,000-yard rusher Jaylen Wright last season. While freshman halfback DeSean Bishop has seen his fair share of carries, Sampson has seized control of the backfield in 2024 and has thrived in the lead role. Through five games, Sampson has posted 587 rushing yards and 12 rushing touchdowns – the second-most in the country – behind a strong Volunteers offensive line. Sampson also averages a solid 6.5 yards per carry and ranks in the top 10 in the country in yards per contest (117.4). The quick and explosive 5-foot-11, 200-pound junior should have a chance to increase his numbers in a skilled Vols offense while showcasing his talent on the national stage in crucial upcoming games against Alabama and Georgia.
