Ranking 10 college football RBs who could win Doak Walker Award

9. Kyle Monangai, Rutgers

Monangai burst onto the scene with a 1,200-yard campaign in 2023 and has played a big role in Rutgers’ 4-1 start. The strong 5-foot-9, 210-pound halfback has run for 667 yards across five games, a top-five total in college football. He is also in the top five in the country in rush yards per game (133.4) and is averaging 5.8 yards per carry with six scores. Monangai has good vision and patience and is an elusive back who breaks tackles, something that could make him the next Scarlet Knights back to earn an opportunity in the NFL. For now, the talented senior will focus on a strong close to 2024 where he should improve upon his numbers from last year. If he can help put Rutgers in the College Football Playoff discussion down the stretch, Monangai could become a favorite for the Doak Walker Award.
