Ranking the top 10 Utah Utes football players of all time
2. Alex Smith, QB (2002-04)
Smith recently became the first player to be inducted into the Utah Football Ring of Honor. The honor was quite fitting, being that he’d helped the Utes to new heights around two decades earlier.
During his career in Salt Lake City, Smith went for 5,203 yards and 47 touchdowns through the air. His 1,072 rushing yards were the most by a Utah quarterback when he moved on to the NFL.
Smith will largely be remembered as the leader of the undefeated 2004 Utes squad that downed Pitt in the Fiesta Bowl. He was taken No. 1 overall by San Francisco in the 2005 NFL Draft.
