5. Zion Gist, Sr., Lincoln-Way East
Junior signal caller Jonas Williams will deservedly garner a lot of the attention on the Lincoln-Way East offense this season as one of the top quarterbacks in Illinois, but the Oregon commit will be aided by a tremendously talented running back alongside him in the backfield with Gist. The 6-foot, 200-pound senior is a speedy, yet physical back who played a big role in helping the Griffins reach the IHSA Class 8A state championship game last season as he ran for over 800 yards and 12 touchdowns while playing alongside 1,200-yard rusher Nuri Muhammad. With Muhammad graduated, Gist is poised for big numbers in a featured role during his senior season. Following his final campaign at Lincoln-Way East, Gist will play college football and study aviation at Western Michigan.
