Ranking each Big 12 starting QB for the 2024 football season
7. Rocco Becht, Iowa State
Becht took over the starting role in Ames somewhat unexpectedly last season in place of Hunter Dekkers and performed well en route to Big 12 Offensive Freshman of the Year honors. The 6-foot-1, 205-pound sophomore from Florida will enter 2024 with some well-deserved hype and could help Iowa State improve upon its fifth-place conference finish in 2023. Last season, Becht threw for 3,120 yards, 23 touchdowns and eight interceptions while completing 62.9% of his passes. He saved arguably his best performance for last as he threw for 446 yards and three touchdowns in the AutoZone Liberty Bowl against Memphis. Becht, the son of former NFL tight end Anthony Becht, lacks the dual-threat ability of some quarterbacks in the conference, but he already appears to be one of the best pure passers in the Big 12.
