Mike Boynton fired; 5 candidates for Oklahoma State head coach
Mike Morrell
Morrell makes for an interesting case. He is an experienced head coach who has led University of North Carolina-Asheville to a 95-87 record and an NCAA Tournament in six years with the program, rebuilding it from a 4-27 program in 2018 to back-to-back 20-plus win campaigns each of the last two years. Morell also has some experience in the Big 12, having served as an assistant coach for the Texas Longhorns from 2015-18.
The biggest question for Morrell is if his resume is strong enough to be considered for the position. He has done a wonderful job with the Bulldogs, but the lack of dominance at the mid-major level like DeVries or Drew could push Morrell down the wish list. While he has proven to be able to rebuild a program, Morell may need a year or two of more success before being moved to a higher position.
