Mike Boynton fired; 5 candidates for Oklahoma State head coach
KT Turner
Turner is in a similar position as Morrell. In his first season at University of Texas-Arlington this year, the first head coaching position of his career, Turner improved the Mavericks from 11-21 to 18-13. While much improved, UT-Arlington finished in third place in the conference and will have to upend Drew鈥檚 WAC conference champion Grand Canyon in order to make the NCAA Tournament, a tall task. Turner has a wealth of experience as an assistant coach with stops at Kentucky, Oklahoma, SMU, Texas and Wichita State so he knows how to coach and recruit at a high-major program.
The worry for Turner, as it was for Morrell, is a weaker resume. While he has proven to be well loved in the coaching community, Turner only has one year of head coaching experience under his belt and that may not result in a conference tournament title or a regular season conference title. While the future is certainly bright for Turner, he may be too green for this position right now, but given his connections both in the Big 12 and in the state, he at least has to be a name to keep an eye on.
