Top 10 Illinois HS baseball players in Class of 2024
3. Brendan Tunink, OF, Newman Central Catholic
Tunink has been a varsity starter at Newman Central Catholic from day one and enters his senior season as one of the top power hitters in Illinois. The 6-foot-1, 190-pound outfielder had a true breakout as a junior as he set five different program records. On the season, Tunink hit .488 with 18 home runs, 50 RBIs and 52 runs to go along with a 0.650 on-base percentage and a 1.268 slugging percentage. Tunink has also shown plenty of upside on the mound during his career and went 10-0 for the Comets last season with a 1.00 ERA and 104 strikeouts. The senior’s powerful swing and quick bat speed have him in line to become a future MLB draft pick, but he currently plans to play at Notre Dame following his final season with the Comets.
OF Brendan Tunink (Newman Central Catholic, 2024; Notre Dame) has slugged multiple HRs in front of our staff this summer. Easy LH bat speed, upside athleticism; broad-shouldered 6-foot, 180 pounds. | |
