4. Charlie Bates, SS, Palo Alto
Bates is ranked as a and is behind just Bryce Rainer when it comes to the top players at the position in the Golden State. The 6-foot-1, 190-pound standout has put together a nice career at Palo Alto High School that is likely to finish on a high note this spring. Perhaps the part of Bates鈥� game that stands out most is his terrific defense in the infield, while he is a good and continually improving contact hitter from the left side of the plate who has a smooth swing. Bates has a bright future ahead and should be an early MLB draft pick this summer. If he doesn鈥檛 go the MLB route, the shortstop will stay close to home to play college baseball at Stanford.听
