Ranking the Pac-12’s best basketball players at midway point
8. Jordan Pope, G, Oregon State
Oregon State hit rock bottom as it went just 3-28 two seasons ago. However, the Beavers have rebounded over the past two seasons and are above .500 in 2023-24 thanks in large part to one of the best young talents in all of college basketball: Pope. The 6-foot-2 sophomore is playing over 36 minutes per contest for head coach Wayne Tinkle, averaging 17.8 points, 2.5 rebounds and 3.7 assists while shooting 45.7% from the field, and 39% from 3-point range. Pope is a terrific scorer who can create his own shot anywhere on the court, evidenced by a career-best 31-point effort in the Beavers’ recent upset of No. 9 Arizona. Oregon State is still a ways away from contending in the Pac-12, but Pope has this team in position to pull off another upset or two during the second half of the conference season.
