Bears head coach Dave Aranda coached under Leach as a graduate assistant at Texas Tech from 2000-2002, so the connection between the two head coaches is there. This season, Baylor struggled to a 3-8 record including a 2-6 record in the Big 12 Conference. Redshirt junior quarterback Blake Shapen actually had a strong season throwing for 2,188 yards, 13 touchdowns and just three interceptions.
Even though Shapen proved he could be a great starting quarterback, the success didn鈥檛 show up in the win column, arguably the most important part of being a QB. Though Rogers didn鈥檛 have a better statistical season than Shapen, he has proven he can excel in pass-heavy offenses and bring the team to success along the way. With two bowl game appearances under his belt, Rogers has proven to be a winner and could help the Bears return to Big 12 relevancy if given the opportunity.
