Ranking the top 10 SEC players entering 2023-24 season
4. Johni Broome, F, Auburn
Broome became a star in his first year in the SEC last season and another step forward is certainly possible in 2023-24. After starring in his first two seasons of college basketball at Morehead State – where he averaged a double-double in his sophomore season – the 6-foot-10 forward transferred to Auburn where he started 33 games last year, posting averages of 14.2 points and 8.4 rebounds while shooting 52.7% from the field. Although Broome is solid offensively, his greatest presence comes on the defensive end. After averaging just shy of four blocks in his second year at Morehead State in 2021-22, Broome blocked 2.4 shots per contest last year while recording nearly a steal per game as well. The big man thrived in year one under Bruce Pearl, and should only continue to grow in year two in the SEC.
