Ranking all 14 Big Ten head coaches entering 2023 season
11. Greg Schiano, Rutgers
Schiano is entering his 15th year as head coach at Rutgers, but with his second stint in New Jersey failing to go as successfully as his first, 2023 could be a make-or-break season. Schiano is a very accomplished coach who has flipped between college and the NFL over the past few decades, holding defensive coaching positions with Penn State, Miami (FL), Ohio State and the Chicago Bears.
In between was an 11-year head-coaching stint at Rutgers from 2001-11 in which he won 68 games and took the Scarlet Knights from a one-win program to an 11-win team in a five-year span. The 2006 Big East Coach of the Year would eventually fail as an NFL head coach with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers before finding his way back to Rutgers. The program made a bowl appearance despite just five wins in 2021, but fans are still waiting for the same turnaround Schiano created in New Brunswick in the early 2000s.
