Ranking all 14 Big Ten head coaches entering 2023 season
10. Mike Locksley, Maryland
Locksley is entering his fifth year as the full-time head coach at Maryland, and expectations have risen as the team continues to improve. After five combined wins in his first two seasons, Locksley led the Terps to a 7-6 record in 2021, and an even better 8-5 campaign last season that culminated with a win in the Duke’s Mayo Bowl.Â
Locksley is a very experienced coach, spending over three decades in college football. He also has a long history with Maryland, first serving as the Terrapins’ running backs coach in 1997, and returning to the program as offensive coordinator from 2012-15 – also operating as the Terps’ interim head coach at the end of that stretch. Despite playing in a tough Big Ten East, Locksley is poised to continue the program’s progression in 2023 with talented quarterback Taulia Tagovailoa back under center.
