Ranking all 14 Big Ten head coaches entering 2023 season
12. Tom Allen, Indiana
After back-to-back bowl appearances in 2019 and 2020, the latter of which they were ranked as high as No. 7 in the AP poll, Allen appeared to have Indiana on the rise. That has come crashing down to earth as the Hoosiers have gone just 6-18 the past two seasons, however, creating a 30-40 overall record under Allen’s reign since 2016 with zero bowl victories.Â
Yet, Allen has proved his perseverance throughout his career. After various stops at the high school level in Florida, Allen saw success coaching Indiana high school powerhouse Ben Davis in the 2000s before staying in state to coach at the next level with Division III Wabash College. Allen then earned defensive coaching roles at Ole Miss and South Florida prior to Indiana. Despite a relatively young roster at some key positions, the Hoosiers’ head coach will be looking for a bounceback season this fall.
