Top 10 all-time leading rushers in Texas HS football

8. Cedric Benson, Midland Lee (1997-2000)

Benson is arguably the most recognizable name on this list, and his impact on the gridiron in Texas and beyond has been impressive. That impact began at Midland Lee, where Benson ran for 8,418 yards during his high school career. As a junior, Benson helped Midland Lee to a state championship and No. 1 overall ranking nationally as he ran for 3,500 yards and 51 touchdowns.

The 5-foot-11, 225-pound running back became a prized recruit for his home-state Texas Longhorns. In Austin, Benson was a four-year starter, rushing for 1,000 yards in each of his four seasons. That culminated with a senior season in which he ran for 1,834 yards and 19 touchdowns, being named an All-American and earning the Doak Walker Award.

Benson was taken No. 4 overall in the 2005 NFL Draft by the Chicago Bears. However, his three years in the Windy City never really lived up to the hype, as he ran for just shy of 1,600 yards during his Bears tenure. Benson鈥檚 pro career eventually would blossom during his time with the Cincinnati Bengals, as he put together three consecutive 1,000-yard seasons before spending the final year of his NFL career with the Green Bay Packers.听
