Top 10 all-time leading rushers in Texas HS football
9. Robert Strait, Cuero (1985-88)
Strait is one of the older players on this list, but his career at Cuero High School stacks up with many of the guys that came into the Texas football scene after him. While playing for the Gobblers, Strait rushed for 8,411 yards and scored 120 touchdowns, leading Cuero to the state championship game three times, winning one. The 6-foot-2 halfback鈥檚 numbers during that state title season were staggering, as he carried the ball 384 times, amassing 3,515 yards and 52 touchdowns.
From there, Strait committed to play in college in-state at Baylor, becoming one of the Bears鈥� top recruits at the time. In Waco, he racked up just shy of 2,000 total yards and 32 rushing touchdowns. Strait went on to be selected in the sixth round of the 1994 NFL Draft by the Cleveland Browns, but never played a down in the NFL. He was recently inducted into the Cuero Sports Hall of Fame.
Robert Strait will be inducted into the Cuero Sports Hall of Fame on Friday.
