Top 10 all-time leading rushers in Texas HS football

2. Johnathan Gray, Aledo (2008-11)

A five-star running back who was the No. 6-ranked player in the Class of 2012 and the 109th-best recruit nationally all time, Gray鈥檚 high school career is one of the best Texas has ever seen. In total, he racked up an incredible 10,889 rushing yards, and broke Mike Hart鈥檚 national rushing touchdown record with 205, 65 of which came in his senior season. Gray also produced 3,891 yards that season, earning All-American status while being named Gatorade National Player of the Year. The running back ended his Aledo career with three straight state championships.

With numerous high-level college offers, Gray committed to play at Texas where his career wasn鈥檛 quite what was expected, but still a strong one. In five years in Austin, the 5-foot-10 running back racked up 2,607 career rushing yards, which are the 14th-most in Longhorns program history. Unfortunately, some of Gray鈥檚 explosiveness was taken away by Achilles tears in both legs during his college career.

He went undrafted in 2016, but earned a tryout with the New York Giants the following year, as well as multiple CFL teams. Gray joined the Frisco Fighters of the Indoor Football League in 2021, and has since returned to Aledo as an assistant coach for his alma mater.
