2. Sam Howell, Sun Valley (2015-18)
An easily recognizable name in the state, Howell has found success where he鈥檚 gone. During his high school career with the Spartans, Howell finished with 13,415 passing yards and 145 TDs, while rushing for 3,621 yards and 60 more scores. He set the North Carolina record for total yards with 17,036 while his passing yards rank second in state history. The signal-caller was a consensus four-star prospect and committed to in-state UNC.
Howell rewrote the record books at Chapel Hill. He finished his Tar Heels career as the program leader in passing yards for a career and game, passing touchdowns in a career, season and game, touchdowns responsible for in a career, season and game and total offense in a career and game.
He was selected with the 144th overall pick in the fifth round by the Washington Commanders in the 2022 NFL Draft and started one game for the team last season throwing for 169 yards, one touchdown and one interception in a win. He鈥檚 expected to compete for the team鈥檚 starting job this season.
