D-I schools with men鈥檚 basketball and football national titles
Syracuse (one basketball, one football)
Much like Maryland, Syracuse鈥檚 championship history is pretty straightforward. The Orange football team was named consensus national champions in 1959 after going a perfect 11-0 and beating No. 4 Texas in the Cotton Bowl.
While Syracuse basketball had been to the NCAA tournament national championship game in both 1987 and 1996, it took until 2003 for them to claim the victory, winning the national title in an 81-78 victory over Kansas.
The school has never gotten close to a national football title since its 1959 victory and the closest it has been since its 2003 basketball title is two Final Four appearances in 2013 and 2016.
