10 teams who could make a Cinderella run in March Madness
2. Boise State
Playing in the Mountain West, Boise State is a little bit more notable name than some on this list, but is recognized more as a football school than basketball. However, head coach Leon Rice has sought out to change that over the past decade, as the Broncos have made three appearances each in the NIT and NCAA Tournament, with the most recent coming as they fell to No. 9 seed Memphis in last year’s tourney.Â
Boise State has returned a lot of talent from that team, including leading scorer Max Rice, as well as guard Marcus Shaver who averages around 13 points and six assists per game. Sophomore Tyson Degenhart has also emerged into a strong scorer for the Broncos. The one concern with Boise State may be depth and size, but they have the scoring and defense to give teams fits in the tournament. Still a bubble team coming into the final week of the regular season, 23-7 Boise State earned a big victory recently over No. 18 San Diego State, adding to a strong resume that also includes wins over the likes of Colorado and Texas A&M.
