Top 10 Utah high school baseball players in Class of 2023
3. Cameron Nielson, SS, Cottonwood
While Nielson played both in the field and on the mound for the Cottonwood Colts, he is set for a future as a middle infielder. The 6-foot, 165-pound shortstop is ranked as the No. 5 player in Utah by Perfect Game and the No. 4 player by PBR.
On the mound last season, Nielson went 3-2 with a 4.72 ERA with 24 strikeouts and 18 walks in 29.2 innings across nine appearances. At the plate, Nielson hit .452 with 36 runs scored, 33 RBIs and four home runs. This earned the junior Class 5A second-team all-state honors.
Given his play for the Colts, Nielson earned plenty of attention from college scouts. Ultimately, he also chose to stay in-state like others on this list, signing with Utah on national signing day. He will look to bring Cottonwood a state championship during his final season with the program this spring.
Made it official today. I'll be pursuing my college education while playing baseball for the Utes! I look forward to working with the awesome coaching staff starting next year and I'm going to give my best to baseball in my final HS season.
