SEC鈥檚 top 10 basketball players with month left in season
8. Johni Broome, F, Auburn
After two strong seasons at Morehead State, including a sophomore campaign in which he averaged a double-double last year, Broome has come over to the SEC and has made an immediate impact for Bruce Pearl and the Auburn Tigers. Currently, Broome is averaging 13.7 points and nine rebounds while shooting a relatively efficient 53% from the field. His offensive numbers have been solid, but it is Broome’s defense that really makes him a difference maker, as the 2022 Ohio Valley Conference Defensive Player of the Year has averaged a steal and 2.6 blocks in his first season in the SEC.
Broome has put up six, seven and eight-block games this season, while also scoring in double figures in all but four of the contests he has played in. The 6-foot-10 big man has also posted an impressive eight double-doubles on the year, with arguably his best showing coming in a recent 27-point, 11-rebound effort against South Carolina. At 7-4 in the conference and 17-7 overall, Auburn has a chance to make a push in the season鈥檚 homestretch, and continued consistent play from Broome will be key in doing so.
