Top 10 NFL players from Milwaukee

3. John Matuszak, DE, Oak Creek

Matuszak was born in Milwaukee but did live in Oak Creek and attended Oak Creek High School. However, he still is in the 414 and also made history. Matuszak became the only Wisconsin native to ever be selected No. 1 overall in the NFL draft when he was selected by the Houston Oilers in 1973. Prior to that, the defensive end spent time at Fort Dodge Junior College, the University of Missouri and Tampa University. It was at Tampa that Matuszak was named an All-American and helped the Spartans win the Tangerine Bowl. He only spent one season with the Oilers before spending the next two seasons in Kansas City but it was with the Oakland Raiders that Matuszak played his best football. He helped the Raiders win Super Bowls XI and XV during the Raiders’ historic runs under hall of famers Al Davis, John Madden and Tom Flores. Matuszak finished his nine-year career in 1982 with 48.5 sacks.
