Ranking the 10 greatest New York Mets of all time
3. Dwight 鈥淒oc鈥 Gooden, RHP (1984-94)
Gooden emerged as one of MLB鈥檚 top pitchers early in his career, winning NL Rookie of the Year honors in 1984. He was even more impressive in 1985, becoming a Cy Young Award winner while leading the big leagues with 24 wins, 268 strikeouts and a 12.2 WAR. Gooden also finished in the top five of MVP voting that season, and reached the All-Star game in four of his first five campaigns in the Big Apple, including the 1986 season where he helped the Mets to their second World Series championship. Gooden鈥檚 157 wins remain the second most in franchise history, as do his 1,875 strikeouts. He also ranks in the top 10 in Mets history in ERA, WHIP, complete games and shutouts. Gooden is one of nine former Mets who have their number retired, and is a member of the club鈥檚 Hall of Fame.
