Craig Smith fired: 5 Utah basketball head coach candidates
Alex Jensen
Several coaches with Utah ties will likely be in the running for the Utes’ job in the coming weeks, and Jensen may ultimately be one of the top candidates. Jensen was a player during a golden era of Utah basketball in the late 1990s under Rick Majerus, highlighted by the Utes reaching the national championship game in 1998. He went on to play professionally overseas and began his coaching career in 2007 as an assistant at Saint Louis under Majerus. Jensen also spent time as a head coach in the NBA G League and as an NBA assistant since 2013 with the Utah Jazz, and currently the Dallas Mavericks. While he lacks familiarity with coaching in the college game, Jensen’s overall experience and rich history with the program make the 48-year-old a notable candidate with a lot of upside.
