Craig Smith fired: 5 Utah basketball head coach candidates
Johnnie Bryant
Bryant is one of several potential Utah head coach candidates with ties to the program. Bryant played right after the Rick Majerus era in Salt Lake City from 2004-07 and was a valuable all-conference performer who still leads the Utes in career 3-point percentage. Since his playing days, Bryant has gained valuable coaching experience in the NBA, working as an assistant under Quin Snyder with the Utah Jazz from 2014-20, and as associate head coach of the New York Knicks and currently the Eastern Conference-leading Cleveland Cavaliers. The 39-year-old lacks college coaching experience, but his youth, time in the NBA and familiarity with the Utah program make him an interesting candidate who could ultimately prove to be a home-run hire.
