Top 10 Big 12 basketball players midway through 2024-25 season
8. VJ Edgecombe, G, Baylor
Edgecombe is the lone first-year player on this list and will likely take home Big 12 Freshman of the Year honors. Edgecombe was a highly touted prospect heading to Waco and while he has been solid throughout the season, his recent run in Big 12 play has been truly impressive. The 6-foot-5 guard has put together eight consecutive games scoring 14 points or more, highlighted by his first career 30-point outing in January against Kansas State. Overall, Edgecombe averages 14.9 points, 5.3 rebounds and 3.2 assists while shooting 44.1% from the field and 39.1% from 3-point range. Edgecombe shoots well and is an athletic playmaker around the hoop, but his defense has also been impressive with 2.3 steals per contest. He could be a significant difference-maker for Baylor come March alongside skilled big man Norchad Omier.
