Ranking the best Big Ten basketball players at midway point
8. Bruce Thornton, G, Ohio State
Thornton has been one of the Big Ten鈥檚 top guards since year one in Columbus and continues to shine for an Ohio State team with an interesting resume featuring just a 5-6 Big Ten record, but also a pair of highly impressive victories at Purdue and against Kentucky. Thornton had one of two 30-point outings this season against the Wildcats as the 6-foot-2, 215-pound junior guard is averaging 17.1 points, 3.4 rebounds and 4.2 assists overall. Perhaps the best part of Thornton鈥檚 game is his efficiency as a scorer. He is a strong shooter from deep but also in the midrange and around the rim, evidenced by his 51.3% shooting rate from the field overall while also shooting 45.9% from 3-point range. Ohio State hasn鈥檛 lived up to expectations thus far but could make a late-season run if Thornton continues his exceptional play.
