Ranking each SEC basketball team entering conference play
6. Texas A&M Aggies
Texas A&M has been good throughout the Buzz Williams era but has yet to have a true breakout campaign. Perhaps 2024-25 will be the season as the Aggies are a top-15 team that looks like they can compete for an SEC title if things break the right way. The 11-2 Aggies have been battle-tested throughout a difficult non-conference schedule where they dropped games to a 10-win UCF squad and a top-10 Oregon team, but also picked up impressive wins over Ohio State, Rutgers, Creighton, Wake Forest, Texas Tech and Purdue. Wade Taylor IV is again the leader of an offensive attack that scores around 76 points per game. However, it’s Texas A&M’s stifling top-20 defense that has led it to success thus far. The defense paired with the Aggies’ experience and depth will make them tough to beat in conference play.
