Ranking the 10 best non-College Football Playoff bowl games
3. Valero Alamo Bowl: BYU vs. Colorado
It鈥檚 relatively rare to see conference opponents play in a bowl game, but BYU and Colorado will match up for the first time as Big 12 foes in the Alamo Bowl in San Antonio on Dec. 28. It鈥檒l be the first time the two programs meet since 1988 and just the 13th time overall, with the Buffaloes winning eight previous matchups.
While the Buffs are slight favorites to win again in San Antonio, No. 17 BYU will be looking to make a statement after a pair of late-season losses cost the 10-win Cougars a berth in the Big 12 championship game. BYU was led throughout the season by a top-20 defense that will be key in a matchup slated to feature a fun quarterback battle between Jake Retzlaff and Shedeur Sanders. Sanders and the Buffs also appeared poised for a playoff opportunity before a late-season loss to Kansas. Still, Colorado exceeded expectations at 9-3 and has Heisman winner Travis Hunter on its side who also makes this a must-watch matchup provided he plays.
