Ranking each Big Ten basketball head coach for 2024-25 season
5. Dana Altman, Oregon
Several good coaches have joined the Big Ten this season and Altman is one of the top additions. The 66-year-old brings a wealth of experience to the conference as he has been a head coach at the Division I level since 1989 with Marshall, Kansas State, Creighton and Oregon. Altman has won coach of the year honors in the Southern Conference, the Big Eight, the Missouri Valley and three times in the Pac-12 since arriving at Oregon in 2010. He has also won multiple conference championships, led the Ducks to the Final Four in 2017 and currently holds an overall record of 795-355 as a head coach. Altman has guided Oregon to eight NCAA Tournament appearances during his tenure in Eugene overall and his teams often seem to have a clutch gene, coming up big in crucial postseason moments through the years.
