Texas A&M and South Carolina hadn鈥檛 met until becoming SEC opponents in 2014 but have had some exciting games over the past decade. The Aggies have been victorious in nine of those contests, including last season in College Station, but the Gamecocks earned their lone win in the series the last time these teams played in Columbia in 2022.
While Texas A&M is the 10th-ranked team in the country and has a 7-1 overall record, the Aggies are only around field-goal favorites to knock off the Gamecocks. Texas A&M suddenly finds itself atop the SEC in Mike Elko鈥檚 first season as has picked up some significant conference wins following a season-opening loss to Notre Dame over Arkansas, Missouri and LSU. The Aggies haven鈥檛 necessarily been dominant on either side of the ball, but the offense found its stride this past weekend behind the dual-threat ability of freshman quarterback Marcel Reed who replaced the benched Conner Weigman.
South Carolina will likely prepare for both quarterbacks and has a strong defense that ranks 13th overall while giving up less than 300 yards per game behind talented linebackers Demetrius Knight and Bam Martin-Scott. The offense hasn鈥檛 been as strong while enduring growing pains behind freshman quarterback LaNorris Sellers but has proven capable of hanging around in big games. The Gamecocks were blown out earlier this season by Ole Miss, but their other two losses were by three points or less to LSU and Alabama. They鈥檙e capable of pulling a big upset on Saturday over an Aggies team that is now in the spotlight with high expectations.
