Top 5 matchups for Week 10 of the 2024 college football season
4. No. 1 Oregon at Michigan – Saturday, 3:30 p.m. ET, CBS
Oregon is creating new rivalries in its first year in the Big Ten and will do so again on Saturday as the Ducks travel to Ann Arbor. Oregon and Michigan have only met five times previously. The Wolverines won the first three matchups in the series that dates back to 1948, but the Ducks have won the last two contests in 2003 and 2007, the latter being a dominant 39-7 victory in The Big House.
A similar result is expected on Saturday as Oregon is a two-touchdown favorite, but playing at Michigan could provide a challenging test for the No. 1-ranked team in the country. The Ducks have picked up nice home wins recently over ranked opponents Ohio State and Illinois and are in the driver’s seat to win the Big Ten with a relatively soft schedule down the stretch. That could make this a trap game, but Oregon has veteran leadership on both sides of the ball headlined by quarterback Dillon Gabriel who leads the 11th-ranked offense in the country.
The Ducks also have the 12th-ranked total defense in the nation which could pose a big challenge for the Wolverines. Michigan is just 5-3 with recent losses at Washington and Illinois, but the Wolverines have played well at home this season, losing only to top-ranked Texas in September. Michigan’s offense has struggled and has endured several quarterback changes, but it appears Sherrone Moore will start Davis Warren this weekend. The Wolverines’ defense will need to keep Michigan in the game on Saturday and has enough playmakers to potentially slow down Oregon’s high-powered offense.
