Stokes would be a stunning hire, but there are reasons why he could emerge as a surprise candidate. The 62-year-old played for the Cavaliers in the early 1980s and holds the program record for games played (134). Stokes had short stints as a head coach with Virginia Tech and East Carolina, but he has not held that title since 2007. He currently serves as the associate commissioner of the Mid-American Conference, a position he has had since 2010. If Stokes has any interest in getting back into coaching, this would be the time to do it.
