Ranking each Big 12 football head coach entering 2024 season
8. Willie Fritz, Houston
Fritz has finally earned a long-awaited opportunity to coach at the high-major Division I level after spending time coaching high school, JUCO and Division II football. Fritz has seen success at each of his stops including at the D-I level with Sam Houston State, Georgia Southern and Tulane. In his final two seasons with the Green Wave, the 64-year old won double-digit games and helped Tulane finish inside of the top 10 of the AP poll in 2022. Now he will be tasked with turning around a Houston program that struggled in its transition to the Big 12 under Dana Holgorsen last year, going just 4-8 overall and 2-7 in conference play. It will likely take Fritz time to get the Cougars to the levels he has reached with some of his former programs, but Houston seems to have the right man for the job in place.
