Ranking each Big 12 starting QB for the 2024 football season
16. Sam Leavitt, Arizona State
Arizona State has some experienced options in its quarterback room with Trenton Bourget and Jeff Sims, but Leavitt probably has the most upside. The 6-foot-2, 200-pound standout was a top-20 quarterback recruit in the Class of 2023 and has the potential to grow in his return to the West Coast, but his lack of experience – as he attempted just 23 passes for 139 yards in his freshman year at Michigan State – could make for some growing pains in Tempe.
15. Gerry Bohanon, BYU
Jake Retzlaff could retain the starting role in Provo after he filled in for Kedon Slovis last year, but it feels like Bohanon might ultimately take the reins as a sixth-year transfer. Bohanon spent his first four seasons of college football at Baylor and threw for 2,200 yards in 2022 before a 1,000-yard passing season at South Florida last year. The 6-foot-3, 225-pound veteran also possesses dual-threat ability that can help him excel in his return to the Big 12 at BYU.
14. Behren Morton, Texas Tech
Morton is the unquestioned starter at Texas Tech after Tyler Shough transferred and continues to improve as he aims to live up to the hype that surrounded him as he arrived in Lubbock in 2021. Last year, Morton threw for 1,754 yards, 15 touchdowns and eight interceptions while completing 62.1% of his passes. The 6-foot-2, 220-pound signal caller is capable of building on those numbers in 2024 as Texas Tech looks to move up the Big 12 standings.
