Ranking the 10 greatest Calgary Stampeders of all time
6. Kelvin Anderson, RB (1996-2002)
A three-time All-Canadian and five-time All-Western performer, Anderson retired as the Stampeders’ all-time leading rusher (8,292 yards) — a mark that has since been surpassed by Joffrey Reynolds.
Anderson rushed for at least 1,000 yards in each of his seven go-rounds in Calgary, leading the Western Division in rushing four times. He was the West’s Most Outstanding Player in 1998, a year in which the Stampeders won the first of two Grey Cups with Anderson toting the ball.
He finished his career with the BC Lions in 2003 and was inducted into the Canadian Football Hall of Fame in 2017.
Kelvin Anderson is the only Calgary player to run for 1000 yards in 7 consecutive seasons. He had 8292 yards, 52 TDs rushing; 2751 yards, 24 TDs receiving in 122 games (1996-02). He went to B.C and had another 1,000 rushing in 2003. He is in the CFHOF and on Stampeders’ WOF.
