Ranking the 10 greatest Edmonton Elks in franchise history
3. Willie Pless, LB (1991-98)
Pless was a tackling machine, pure and simple.
Having pulled down an approximation of over 1,200 ball-carriers, he’s the CFL’s all-time leader in stops.
Thought to be undersized for his position, Pless spent most of his professional career in Edmonton, pulling in the league’s Most Outstanding Defensive Player award five times. He also helped the team win the Grey Cup in 1993 and was All-Canadian in each of his eight go-rounds in Edmonton.
After playing with Saskatchewan in 1999, Pless retired with Edmonton. He was inducted into the Canadian Football Hall of Fame in 2005.
